What are semiochemicals?

Semiochemicals are chemical substances produced, released and received in plants and animals, creating a chemical language used to communicate to each other.
Semiochemicals are detected by the vomeronasal organ (VNO). The VNO, or Jacobson’s organs is an olfactory sense organ used by many animals such as snakes, lizards, and mammals such as mice, rats, cats, dogs, pigs, elephants, and possible humans.
